Short answer: The most common findings after Volnewmer are temporary redness, mild swelling and tenderness to touch; most settle within hours, at most a few days. Blistering, crusting or a dent in the skin surface are rare and should be reported to your doctor. The real effect depends on new collagen, so it develops over 2–3 months, and the result is assessed at month 3.

Timeline

  • First hours: redness, a feeling of warmth and slight tightness. You can go back to work the same day.

  • First 48 hours: mild swelling is possible, especially around the eyes. Avoid sauna, Turkish bath (hamam), very hot showers and intense exercise.

  • Week 1: tenderness to touch may last a few days; the skin usually returns completely to normal.

  • Month 1: don't expect a visible change yet; collagen production is still under way.

  • Months 2–3: firmness and skin quality improve gradually. At month 3 we compare standardised photos.

  • Month 12: a repeat session is usually planned once a year to maintain the result.

Why don't results show straight away?

The tightness you feel right after treatment is the immediate shortening of heated collagen fibres. The real change comes as fibroblasts, responding to the heat, produce new collagen over several weeks. In a study that examined skin samples after monopolar radiofrequency, an increase in dermal collagen was shown (Suh et al., 2020).

Because the change is slow, it is hard to notice in the mirror. That is why we compare photos taken before treatment and at month 3 in the same light and from the same angle, and repeat the AURA 3D skin analysis when needed.

What is normal

  • Redness: settles within hours.

  • Mild swelling: 1–2 days; more noticeable around the eyes.

  • Tenderness to touch or slight stinging: may last a few days.

When should you contact us?

  • Blisters or crusting

  • Pain, redness or discharge that gets worse over the following days

  • A dip or dent in the skin surface

  • Numbness or reduced sensation that lasts longer than a few days

These are rare. In a retrospective review of more than 600 monopolar radiofrequency treatments, temporary side effects occurred in 2.7%, and all resolved on their own (Weiss et al., 2006). That study used an older-generation, gas-cooled device. If you notice any of these, contact us or see a dermatologist near you.

Aftercare in the first week

  • Use a gentle cleanser and a moisturiser.

  • Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen every morning.

  • Pause stimulating products such as retinol, AHAs and BHAs for 2–3 days; if your skin isn't sensitive, continue afterwards.

  • Avoid sauna, Turkish bath, sunbeds and intense exercise for 24–48 hours.

  • Make-up can usually be worn the same day.

  • Travelling home, including a flight, is fine: there is no wound to look after.

What affects the result?

  • The right candidate: clear benefit in mild to moderate laxity, limited benefit in advanced sagging.

  • The right dose and distribution: pulses spread across the areas according to a plan.

  • Lifestyle: sun, smoking and rapid weight change all harm collagen.

  • Expectations: Volnewmer tightens the skin; it does not replace lost volume or move descended tissue upwards.

If you had a treatment and saw no change, the points above are where to start: Who is (and isn't) a good candidate for Volnewmer.

Frequently asked questions

How long does the redness last after Volnewmer?

Usually a few hours. Mild swelling, mostly around the eyes, can last 1–2 days.

When will I see the result of Volnewmer?

The change develops gradually over 2–3 months as new collagen forms; the result is assessed at month 3 by comparing standardised photos.

When can I go back to retinol or acids after Volnewmer?

Pause retinol, AHAs and BHAs for 2–3 days; if your skin is not sensitive after that, you can continue as usual.
