Hair PRP Treatment: What the Evidence Says and How It Is Done

Short answer: Platelet-rich plasma is prepared from your own blood and injected into the scalp to stimulate follicles. The best evidence is in early androgenetic alopecia as an add-on to medical treatment. It does not work on follicles that are already gone, and it is not a substitute for a diagnosis.

Who benefits

  • Early to moderate androgenetic alopecia, together with minoxidil or finasteride

  • Recovery phase of telogen effluvium once the trigger has been corrected

  • Around hair transplantation to support graft survival

Who does not

Advanced smooth baldness, active scarring alopecia, uncontrolled scalp disease, and patients who expect PRP alone to stop hormonal hair loss. Evidence in alopecia areata is weak.

Protocol

Typically 3-4 sessions 4 weeks apart, then maintenance every 4-6 months. Each session takes about 30-40 minutes; mild soreness for a day is normal. Results are assessed at 3-6 months with trichoscopy photographs, not by impression.

How we decide

PRP is offered only after trichoscopy confirms a diagnosis that responds to it, and always alongside the medical treatment that does most of the work.

Patients from Bulgaria and Greece

Our practice is in Kırklareli, a short drive from the Bulgarian and Greek borders. Consultation, trichoscopy and the first treatment are usually completed in a single visit; follow-up runs by photo and WhatsApp. See our hair loss treatments page for the overall approach.
