Radiesse: Biostimulation with Calcium Hydroxyapatite
Radiesse holds a particular place among injectables: it is not a simple filler that occupies space, but a biostimulator — calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA) microspheres that give an immediate volume correction and, more importantly, prompt the skin to build its own collagen over the following months. The result develops over time and looks natural, because to a large extent it is your own tissue.
How it works
Calcium hydroxyapatite is a biocompatible, biodegradable material related to minerals that occur naturally in the body. After injection, the carrier gel provides the immediate effect, while the microspheres act for months as a scaffold around which fibroblasts build new collagen. As the material is gradually resorbed, the stimulated collagen remains to support the result.
Honest from the start: it is not permanent — and that is a good thing
The effect typically lasts 12-18 months, varying with area and metabolism. It is not permanent — and it should not be: faces change with age, and permanent materials become tomorrow's problems. A second, equally important note: unlike hyaluronic acid fillers, Radiesse has no "dissolver" — it cannot be removed with hyaluronidase. That is why conservative planning and an experienced hand matter even more here, and why the product is not used in areas such as the lips or under the eyes.
Where we use it
-
Cheeks and midface — restoring support, with a natural lifting effect
-
Jawline and chin — defining the lower contour
-
Temples — the forgotten zone of upper-face ageing
-
Hands — one of the few genuinely good options for the ageing dorsum of the hand
-
Skin quality (in diluted form) — neck, décolleté and face, for firmness and density
Radiesse or a hyaluronic filler?
They are not rivals; they are different tools. Hyaluronic acid excels at fine shaping and mobile areas (lips) and is reversible; Radiesse excels at structure, contour and long-term collagen stimulation. In many faces the plan combines them — each where it is better. The decision is made at examination, on your anatomy. How we approach facial balancing with fillers.
The procedure
Structural assessment → cleansing and numbing cream (the product also contains lidocaine) → application with needle or cannula, usually 15-30 minutes → you return to your day immediately. Mild swelling and occasional bruising are normal for a few days; the immediate result is visible, while the biostimulation effect builds over 2-3 months.
Safety and our standard
The treatment is performed personally by Dr. Kağan Cingöz — a dermatologist with Merz Aesthetics training (Merz is the manufacturer of Radiesse) and an international trainer in aesthetic technologies. The product is original, with the box opened in front of you, brand and serial number visible. It is not used in pregnancy or breastfeeding, in active skin infection, in active autoimmune disease, or with unrealistic expectations. If you take anticoagulants, do not stop them on your own — the plan is coordinated with the doctor who prescribed them.
A note for patients travelling to Turkey
Biostimulators are increasingly sold abroad as "the long-lasting filler" — and that framing hides the very thing you need to know: because Radiesse cannot be dissolved, the assessment before it matters more than with any hyaluronic filler. The questions that protect you: was your face assessed structurally, is the product genuine and opened in front of you, and does the injector know which zones CaHA should never enter? Frequently asked questions
When do results appear? — The volume correction immediately; the collagen effect builds over 2-3 months and holds. How long does it last? — Usually 12-18 months, depending on area and metabolism; "permanent" would be a false promise. Does it hurt? — With numbing cream and the lidocaine in the product, discomfort is minimal. Can it be combined with Botox or HIFU? — Yes, often — each works on a different layer; the sequence is planned at examination. Why not in the lips? — CaHA is not suited to mobile, delicate zones; hyaluronic acid is used there — and that zone-by-zone selection is precisely the difference between a medical plan and a catalogue.
