Botox for the Upper Face: What It Can and Cannot Do
Botox (botulinum toxin) temporarily relaxes the muscles that fold your skin in the same places with every expression. The result of a correct treatment is a rested, natural face — not a frozen mask. And the difference between the two is not the product; it is the hand and the plan behind it.
The areas treated most often
-
Forehead — the horizontal lines that appear when you raise your eyebrows
-
Frown lines ("the 11s") — the vertical lines between the brows that make you look angry or tired even when you are neither
-
Crow's feet — the fine lines at the outer corners of the eyes, visible when you smile
With precise planning, a subtle lift of the brow tail and a more open, symmetrical look around the eyes are also achievable.
Honestly: what Botox can and cannot do
Botox is at its strongest on dynamic wrinkles — the ones created by movement. On static wrinkles, etched in over years, it softens them and stops them deepening, but it does not erase them; those sometimes call for complementary methods. Equally important: Botox does not treat laxity and does not lift descended tissue — that is the territory of energy-based technologies and fillers. Anyone promising that every line will disappear is selling, not advising.
How the treatment works
A few minutes, very fine needles, no downtime — you return to your day immediately. The effect begins at 3-7 days, completes at two weeks, and typically lasts 3-4 months (in some patients between 2 and 6). With regular treatment, the interval often lengthens.
Side effects and aftercare
Transient redness, mild swelling or a small bruise at the injection points are normal and settle within days. Rarely, with imprecise placement, temporary drooping of a brow or eyelid can occur — which is exactly why choosing the injector is the most important decision you make. Afterwards: do not rub or massage the area, stay upright for about 4 hours, and avoid strenuous exercise until the next day. Botox is not used in pregnancy or breastfeeding, and neuromuscular conditions must be disclosed at consultation.
Why a dermatologist
Facial anatomy — muscles, nerves, vessels — is the treatment itself. In our clinic Botox is performed personally by a board-certified dermatologist, with an original product whose box is opened in front of you, brand and serial number visible. It is a small ritual that answers a large question: what exactly is being injected into your face?
A note for patients travelling to Turkey
Aesthetic medicine in Turkey is popular for good reasons — but the question that protects you is always the same: who performs the procedure, with what product, and who manages a complication if one occurs? Physician credentials in Turkey are verifiable through official registries; a clinic that welcomes that question is the one worth booking. Our full checklist for choosing a clinic here.
For international patients
Dr. Kağan Cingöz's clinic is in Kırklareli, Turkey — 2 hours from Istanbul, 1 hour from Edirne, and an easy drive from the Bulgarian and Greek borders. Many patients combine the visit with a trip to Istanbul: Botox has no downtime, so a consultation in the morning and treatment the same day fit comfortably into a single day. Frequently asked questions
Does it hurt? — It feels like light pinpricks; the treatment takes minutes. When do I repeat it? — Usually at 3-4 months; with regular treatment the interval often lengthens. Will I look unnatural? — Not with conservative dosing. The goal is to look rested, not different. Can it be done the same day as the consultation? — Yes, if the assessment confirms it is appropriate. Botox or filler? — Different problems: movement lines → Botox; lost volume → filler. Most faces over 40 need a staged plan, decided at examination.
