Masseter Botox: Teeth Grinding and Lower-Face Contour
A tired jaw in the morning, wear your dentist noticed, grinding in your sleep... Masseter Botox — botulinum toxin placed in the chewing muscle — is one of the most requested treatments of recent years, and it deserves honest answers rather than promises.
What it does for bruxism (teeth grinding)
Botox reduces the excessive contraction force of the masseter: the intensity of night-time clenching, morning jaw pain and the feeling of tension drop significantly in most patients. Said correctly: it does not replace dental approaches (night guards and so on) — in most cases it complements them, and the plan depends on the cause. If you have temporomandibular (TMJ) complaints, the assessment is made together with your dentist.
Does it slim the face?
In people with an enlarged (hypertrophic) masseter, the muscle gradually reduces and the lower face visibly slims — the effect usually settles over 2-3 months. But here is the honesty this treatment requires: if the width of your lower face comes from bone structure or from fat, Botox will not slim it. Making that distinction at the consultation saves you a procedure that was never going to work — which is exactly why assessment comes before the syringe.
How long it lasts
The effect typically lasts 4-6 months. With regular repetition, as the muscle's "habit" weakens, the interval lengthens for many patients. The treatment takes a few minutes with very fine needles and needs no downtime — you return to your day immediately.
Who it is not for
Conditions that could affect chewing function, certain neuromuscular disorders, pregnancy and breastfeeding. Medical assessment is mandatory: this is a medical treatment, not a catalogue service.
Why a dermatologist
Dosing and injection points in the masseter require anatomical knowledge: imprecise placement can affect neighbouring muscles and your smile. In our clinic the treatment is performed personally by a board-certified dermatologist, with an original product whose box is opened in front of you.
A note for patients travelling to Turkey
Masseter Botox has become a popular "quick treatment" for medical travellers — and that is precisely why the selection question matters more here than anywhere: is the fullness of your lower face muscular at all? A clinic that treats every square jawline with the same syringe will produce disappointed patients. The question that protects you, wherever you go: who performs it, with what product, and who manages a complication? Our full checklist for choosing a clinic in Turkey.

Frequently asked questions
Does it hurt? — Light pinpricks for a few minutes; discomfort is minimal. When will I feel the effect on grinding? — Relaxation starts in the first or second week; full effect at around two weeks. Will it affect my chewing? — With correct dosing, normal chewing function is preserved; only the excessive force is reduced. When does the face slim? — If the muscle is enlarged: visibly at 2-3 months. If the width is not muscular, we tell you honestly at the consultation — before the treatment, not after. Will I look unnatural? — No; masseter Botox does not affect your facial expressions.
